2024 All California

There are a handful of us that are planning on joining the Los Angeles folks this year for the 2024 All California!

Quoting Al Grindon’s email:

Friends,

I’m pleased to invite you to the 36th All-California Sacred Harp Singing Convention. I also invite you (implore you, actually!) to help ensure its success.

We'll sing on Saturday and Sunday, January 20-21, 2024, at the historic Davies Building in Farnsworth Park,

568 E. Mount Curve Ave,
Altadena, CA 91001.

The park is nestled beneath the San Gabriel Mountains in beautiful Altadena, just north of Pasadena and convenient to the 210 Freeway. The venue is a WPA-built rustic lodge with views of the San Gabriel Valley and the Los Angeles skyline.

9 am registration both days, with singing from 9:30 - 3 pm. There will be a social on Saturday evening, details to be announced.

For the safety of all, we strongly encourage all singers to get up to date with their Covid vaccinations. We will follow these Covid protocols:

Singers are required to show proof of a negative Covid antigen test on both Saturday and Sunday (photo okay; two tests total). Please plan to
take your test before arriving at the singing. We will have a limited number of tests available at registration.

Please stay home if you have any symptoms of viral illness, even if Covid-negative.

Singers are welcome to wear masks, but masking is not required.

We’ll ventilate the singing space as best we can.

Attendees agree to notify Mary Rose O'Leary for contact tracing if they develop Covid-like symptoms and/or test positive in the 5 days following
the Convention. We will preserve your anonymity.

Ways to help:

Housing: It’s an honored tradition for local singers to host visitors from out of town. Let’s welcome our visitors by sharing our roof. If you can offer a bed or two, please text or call Mary Rose O’Leary at (323) 695 3020. Hotel info TBA.

Covid tests: To facilitate our Covid protocols, we’ll need Covid tests for those who come without. Can you get some extras and bring them so we’ll have enough? If you haven’t already ordered your free tests, do it now at

https://www.covid.gov/tests

https://www.covid.gov/tests/#resources

And most important, we need volunteers for all the roles essential to a successful convention. Particularly, we need folks for the

– Food Committee (organization, set-up, etc.) Of course, all local singers should plan to bring food for the masses both days.
– Beverages team
– Set-up and clean-up team
– Registration Committee
– Arranging Committee
– Social Committee (coordinate food, set-up and clean-up for Saturday evening)
– Resolutions Committee

One of these roles is calling your name! Contact me at grindona@gmail.com to let me know which. If everybody contributes, we’ll have a great weekend of singing!

Chordially,

Al Grindon (Chair)
