Annual All-Day Singing

On the Saturday before the Fourth Sunday in July, every year, we host the "Marilou and Don Jolly Memorial All-Day Singing", at the Porter House in Old Poway Park. The date for 2008 is Saturday, July 26. Mark your calender now!

Here's the flyer (a Microsoft Word) for the All-Day Singing.   Please download it and distribute it to all interested parties: 12thJollyAllDaySingingFlyer

In addition to the All-Day Singing on Saturday, we want to invite all the singers to join us at a local restaurant for dinner and fellowship on Saturday evening.   Details and directions will be distributed at the singing.

If you enjoy contra-dancing, San Diego Folk Heritage will be sponsoring one of their regular series of contra-dances on Saturday evening, July 26.  The dances are held at Trinity United Methodist Church, the North Park neighborhood of San Diego (see Map).   See the SDFH contra-dance schedule for further details.

Please plan to stay over until Sunday!  On Sunday morning, Anitra Kaye will host a Brunch and Singing at her home.   This will be a Red Book/Blue Book/Eclectic/Gospel singing, so bring your Sacred Harp(s), red and blue, and any other music you think others would enjoy singing.   On Saturday, we'll try to get a count of people planning to attend, so that we make sure there are enough copies to go around.   Jerry Schreiber has his "7 goes into 4" collection of gospel music originally published in various gospel collections ("little books"), 7-shape notation  with two parts on each staff, which he has translated to the familiar (to us) 4-shape, one part per staff format of Sacred Harp.

Accommodations for All-Day Singing

There are a number of motels in the Poway area (not to mention throughout San Diego).   The one closest to the singing is the Best Western "Poway Country Inn" Map, where singers have stayed for previous All-Day Singings and All-California Conventions we have sponsored.

We have a few rooms available with singers.   Please contact Jerry regarding housing, and we'll do our best to help you.

All-California Sacred Harp Singing Convention

Singers from around California and across the country gather each year, for two days of hearty singing on the 3rd Sunday in January and the Saturday before. The location of this event is shared by our group in San Diego, the groups in Los Angeles, and the groups in the San Francisco Bay area. When it's our turn, we've had the good fortune to use the facilities at Old Poway Park, including the Templars' Hall, a beautiful singing space. Our next opportunity to host this event will be in 2010. Check back here for more details.
